Have you ever loved a ghost?

 

 

Being in love with a shadow

who is strong and fluid in the sun

and melts into the ether of evening

leaves me hungry on this low-cal diet

 

I no longer can consume his richness

no more want to desire his full-bodied taste

but love doesn’t let go so easy, it prefers

to stir the fires of my desire for him

 

I no can longer devour his seductive sweetness

am on the wagon, built of hundreds of Mexican miles

but when a rich memory floats by

longing stretches me out thin over my limits

 

so again I'm lost in fading eventide shadows
