"...to carry away memories brought for the forgetting
on one thousand one auspicious origami birds
whispering over chilled salmon, ripe fruit
suggesting the fertility of the afternoon."
from the poem, "One thousand one wedding cranes" 1998
i belong to morning
when morning surprises me with its music
and words take wing into the rising sun
my heart expands to sing Your name,
the bottom drops out of my breath
and from deep in my longing
memories open a naked window,
the air shivers around me
i taste love’s aroma in the crying wind
You smile from the undulating hills
and wild grasses rise up around me
like protective daughters
flocks of sleek winter geese
call my name into the clouds
as the sea prepares to greet the day
